Jessica Meyers – Reserve Champion!

Sixteen–year old FREAK athlete, Jessica Meyers, competed in the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair, held in Brandon, Manitoba March 26 to April 3. The prestigious RMWF is one of only two agricultural fairs deemed to be “Royal” by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II – one fair is held in Brandon every March, and the other is held in Toronto.

Equestrian rider and Olympic–hopeful, Jessica, competed in the hunter ring this year with her 5–year–old mount, Lord Connery – affectionately called “Connor.” Competition was fierce, with large classes of competitors from all over Canada and the United States, and it included grueling hours in both warm up and competition rings.

After 9 days in a row of competing, Jessica was awarded many ribbons and prizes, but the ultimate honour was winning Reserve Champion in the Children’s Hunter Division – all this after training with Connor for just 2 months! Jessica began training at FREAK in January 2011 and has noticed significant changes in her core and leg strength allowing her to better control her horse; as well as improvement in her overall physical endurance – a must–have in this demanding sport. Jessica is a proven contender, and there is no doubt that she and Connor have a wonderful future together – well done!
